Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
In light of growing concerns with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and in alignment with efforts designed to slow the spread of the virus, Central Christian College of Kansas is encouraging residential students to not return back to campus, from Spring Break, until at least April 5, 2020. Faculty will work with students to complete course work remotely during this time period.
As of this time there are no confirmed or suspected cases of the virus among any of the students, faculty, or staff. As of March 12, 2020 only four cases of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the state of Kansas all in Johnson County.
For some time now, Central Christian College of Kansas has been surveying the situation and preparing contingencies should the need arise. Based on the rapidly evolving spread of COVID-19, which was recently classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the College is concerned for the ongoing health and well-being of its students, as well as the greater good of the local communities that partner with us.
Central Christian College of Kansas already hosts a robust online program. Therefore, many of the tools needed to shift residential course work into the virtual world are already in place. President Favara stated, “This series of events may force us to think a little creatively over the next few weeks, but we have been doing that for over 136 years. In the meantime, we are dedicated to ensuring that the continuity of the student experience is not interrupted during this global crises.”
Students are scheduled to leave for Spring Break this Friday. Except for a limited number of students who need to remain due to an inability to travel or access to learning technology, students will remain off campus through April 5th, 2020. Classes will resume remotely on March 23, 2020, so that students may continue their academic pursuits uninterrupted. Unless otherwise noted, all campus-wide activities, including athletics, are also suspended during this time, though all administrative and faculty offices will remain open to ensure continuity of service.
From now through April 5th, College leadership will continue to assess the situation and will provide further clarification as the situation develops.
In a statement to the student body, President Favara stated, “We will be working diligently on your behalf. You can rest assured that though the times are uncertain God remains faithful and Central Christian College stands with you. Keep in mind, this is not the first challenge to confront this great institution or the God she serves. Through His grace we will weather this storm”
Events, conferences, and other large gatherings scheduled after April 5th are currently under review by the President’s Cabinet. We will have a follow-up communication regarding these activities in the near future.
We would encourage you to visit Central’s Coronavirus website at: www.centralchristian.edu/coronavirus periodically for additional information and updates. If you have specific questions or concerns, please email: covid@centralchristian.edu and emails will be responded to as quickly as possible.
