1st Semester Recap
Central Christian College’s men’s basketball team concluded a successful first semester with its best start as a four-year school at 9-2.
The Tigers are led by guard Sean High, who is currently leading the MCAC in scoring (26.1 points per game) and steals (3.1); he ranks second and sixth in the nation respectively in those categories. Forward Don Gavin, in his first year at Central, is tied for first in the conference in field-goal percentage (.591%), and is second in both scoring (22.0) and rebounding (8.9).
CCC's offensive productivity has been prolific, with its 93.7 average good enough for second in the conference. Their defense has been even better, as they give up an MCAC-leading 65.8 points a contest. Other categories of note: First in the MCAC in field-goal shooting (.497%); second in assists (16.6); second in rebounds (41.6).
Central’s start was enough to earn consideration for the NAIA’s Division II top 25; the Tigers received votes in each of the two weeks leading up to Christmas, the first time since becoming a four-year institution that that has happened. The main goal, however, is to earn a berth in the MCAC tournament. The conference features three of the country's top eight teamsfrom last season: Oklahoma Wesleyan, Bellevue, and College of the Ozarks. The Tigers – who were picked to finish fifth in the MCAC this preseason – aren’t merely satisfied with a solid beginning, and are determined to make waves in one of the nation’s top conferences.
